Karen Nash Memorial Butterfly Garden
Washington, New Jersey
Third Week of April (nature-dependent)
1,100 daffodils have been planted in "The Karen Nash Memorial Butterfly Garden." The daffodils are cared for by the Warren Jr. Gardeners (3rd thru 6th graders). Karen Nash Memorial Butterfly Garden has been recognized as the Top Youth Garden Club in New Jersey and in the Central Atlantic Region of the United States three times over the past decade.
The daffodils typically bloom the 3rd week of April, although blooming is weather dependent.
This is a pollinator garden in full bloom with an emphasis of native plants in full bloom between mid-June through September. In 2015, the KNMBG won the National First Place Award for "A Garden Making A World of Difference...choices matter" awarded from the National Garden Club. Also in 2015, the KNMBG Junior Gardeners of Memorial School were awarded First Place as the Top Youth Garden Club in NJ, honored by the Garden Club of NJ.
The garden is located at Memorial School, 300 W. Stewart St., Washington, New Jersey 07882.
Groups visiting the butterfly garden are required to make advanced reservations for insurance purposes; the garden is run by volunteers, and they have to arrange for someone to be present anytime a group plans to visit. A small donation to the school's young gardeners group is appreciated. The KNMBG is a 501 c 3 organization.
