First Daffodil Sprouts in Arkansas

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Daffodil Sprouts, originally uploaded by Noah Eggensperger Photography.

Photographer Noah Eggensperger tells us about this December 29, 2009 image taken in Cabot, Arkansas: I took the picture this evening, while out to find any good picture finds I could. Usually, these daffodils start to sprout around February. My mom planted these to grow around the beginning of February, because my birthday is on the 6th.

We think this is a nice idea for a birthday observance – a good present from Mom!

December Daffodils in South Carolina

Monday, December 28th, 2009

DSC_0356, originally uploaded by mogollon_1.

These South Carolina daffodils were photographed on December 27, 2009 by Photographer mogollon_1 who tells us: I took the daffodil pic today (12/27) at Magnolia Gardens near Charleston. It is one of the most beautiful places you can imagine. I go there often to walk and take pictures. Check my other Spring sets of Magnolia Gardens where I have many other daffodil pictures. The weather here recently has been very mild, hence the daffodils peeking out. Azaleas have also been blooming there.

December daffodil, originally uploaded by Webrarian.

This December 27, 2009 photo was taken by Webrarian, who tells us it was directly inspired by Peter Denton’s photo (see prior entry). We now bestow upon these daffodils the honor of being the second “First Daffodil” of 2010.

Webrarian makes this comment about the image: “That’s the English Riviera for you. Spotted in Torre Abbey Gardens in Torquay.”

Climate Change? in West London

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Climate change?, originally uploaded by Peter Denton.

This December 19, 2009 photo in West London receives the honor of the “First Daffodil of 2010″. Our blog is now officially opened for the 2010 season.

The photographer, Peter Denton, comments: 19 December 2009: On the day the world climate change summit fails amid acrimony and recrimination, a lone daffodil appears in Teddington, west London – way ahead of its time.

Peter adds: I’ve never seen a daffodil in full flower so early; here, they’re normally associated with spring, so I suppose late February onwards.
