Photographer Drosophila tells us about this April 19, 2009 image: This was taken in Scotland, near Fyvie Castle in Aberdeenshire. The Daffodils were well kept by the gardeners and provided the perfect backdrop for the little Blue Tit I managed to photograph.

This is a cool Skagit photo. Photographer wendyb1214 tells us: This was taken in Mount Vernon, Washington – an area of Washington state known as the Skagit Valley. There are many farms here growing both flowers – daffodils, tulips, and iris – and vegetables. Each spring, the area bursts into colorful bloom, it’s really magical. Unfortunately, i don’t know anything about the daffodils themselves. Oh, and the photo was taken on April 14, 2009.
Here is the Skagit Valley page on daffodilfestivals.com.

Photographer psyberartist has posted a series of beautiful images from early spring at Laurel Ridge (April 17, 2009), and tells us: They were all taken at the same place: There’s a farm called “Laurel Ridge” in Northfield, CT, where there are acres of fields/hills covered in daffodils. The site is locally famous; between end of March and early May, people park along the side of the (rural) road and walk among the daffodils. The hills end at a lake or pond that has a small island in the middle; island also is full of daffodils.
If you google “Laurel Ridge” and daffodils, you can get more info about the place. It’s in Northwestern CT.

We don’t see many photos of daffodils in NYC, and this is a great capture from March 31, 2009. Photographer boileraae tells us: The photo was taken 3 weeks ago in Central Park, New York City. I believe the body of water is officially known as “The Lake”. I geotag my photos, so check the link on the photo page to see a map of where the photo was taken.
For a cool look at boileraae’s photos, here is his flickriver page.

Photographer t-squared tells us about this April 19, 2009 image: I took the photo last Sunday in the Skagit Valley north of Seattle. We were there for the tulips (Skagit Valley Tulip Festival) but were drawn to this lovely field of daffodils. I also try to do something beyond the cliche so I dropped my camera down to water level in the row between the flowers. It was a great day.
For additional perspective on things besides daffodils, here is t-squared’s imagekind gallery.

Photographer Steven Brannon tells us about this April 3, 2009 photo: It was taken in the gardens of Muncaster Castle in the Lake District National Park, Cumbria, UK just 15 miles from where I live. The daffodils in these parts can be truly fantastic, in fact a local poet – William Wordsworth – who was born about ten miles from where I live – wrote quite a famous poem about them.

Photographer l.j.george tells us about this beautiful place: The picture was take on Lundy Island, which is in the Bristol Channel, about ten miles off the coast of Devon, England.
Lundy is a small island three miles long and half a mile wide. It is now mostly a nature reserve, but there are a few permanent residents. We were there on a short break because they do take visitors.
The valley is on the south east of the island which is more sheltered than the rest. The island is of course exposed to prevailing westerlies and most of it is grass and moorland. The valleys to the east do have more vegetation because they are on the leeward side of the island.
The photograph was taken on the evening of 21/03/2009.

Photographer ashzhish tells us about this bright-eyed April 2, 2009 image: I took the photo along the Witte Singel in Leiden, the Netherlands. I was charmed both by the luxurious carpet of daffodils lining the singel amd by the ducks wandering through them. After a long cold winter, the flowers – among the first harbingers of spring – were a warm and welcome sight.

Photographer rojabro tells us about this pretty image: It was taken on the afternoon of 31 March 2009, when I noticed the sunlight catching these daffodils on the steep bank down to the River North Tyne, in the garden of the George Hotel, Chollerford near Hexham in Northumberland.
For people wanting to look at daffodils, I have some photos from past years in this set, which may be of interest:

There are some 200 varieties of daffodils at Thorp Perrow Arboretum in North Yorkshire, where the above shots were taken.
Also the garden at Constable Burton Hall in Wensleydale is known for its variety and scale of daffodil plantings. Pictures from past years can be found in this set:

Photographer Ron Hanko tells us about this cool Skagit Valley image taken on April 3, 2009: The photo was taken near Mount Vernon, Washington (it is geotagged). Near Mount Vernon there are extensive fields of tulips and daffodils that are grown commercially mainly for the spring bulb market, although there is also a large cut flower market for daffodils. The daffodils themselves are primarily the plain yellow variety and later the multiflowered “narcissus” type.
Ron has created a set of photos called “Skagit Valley Tulips” here.

Photographer Melissa @ PPC tells us about this April 4, 2009 image: This photo was taken in Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This bed is part of an effort the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy has started called The Daffodil Project, which aims to plant 50,000 daffodil bulbs in the parks over the next few years. This is the pilot site, where 5,000 bulbs were planted in 2007 and another 7,850 in 2008.
These daffodils are at their peak now. Melissa sends us this link to a panoramic image taken today, April 16, 2009: It’s a stitch of 48 images so you can dive and see how many daffodils you can count.

A daffodils blog would not be authentic without a photograph taken at Grasmere. Photographer byamossygnome.com tells us: The picture was taken in the Wordsworth Daffodil Garden in the village of Grasmere in the English Lake District. They are wild daffodils – the sort which inspired Wordsworth’s poem about them after he saw them growing by the shores of Ullswater, a lake just a few miles away. Because Wordsworth lived in Grasmere, and his poem is so famous, many daffodils have now been planted there.

The daffodils there grow absolutely everywhere and are apparently the first flowers to bloom after each winter.

Photographer Sue Combs tells us about this daffodils daffodils image taken on April 5, 2009: The daffodils I have taken recently were all shot in the South of Dayton, Ohio area – the towns of Oakwood and Kettering. Some were taken at Polen Farms in Kettering, and some were shot on Oakwood where a couple use their ample front, wooded, yard as a daffodil showcase!
There are literally thousands planted and it is a very popular place for folks to visit this time of year.
