Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Towards the Sun, originally uploaded by Miss Kim.

Photographer Miss Kim tells us about this February 10, 2009 image: I took the photo last week while visiting a tiny village in Albania! The place is called Krajen and it is nestled at the base of the northern mountains. Being February, we hadn’t expected to see flowers in bloom but this little church garden was right in the sunshine and it was lovely.

California Dreamin’ in San Diego

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Daffodils, originally uploaded by Dan-oh.

Photographer Dan-oh tells us: The [February 14, 2009] photo is just from my front yard in San Diego. We have a spiral mass planted and they’ve been blooming for a week or so. We have an old lawn area that we are slowly turning into a ‘meadow’ area and the daffs add some seasonal color. It helps that we had 2 weeks of 80 deg weather – before we had to force the daffodils up.

We asked Dan-oh what he means by “We have a spiral mass planted”, and here is what he tells us: Fun stuff. The planting is just a bulk planting of bulbs is a spiral formation. We started in the center and then just spiraled out from there. It’s an interesting formation.

Woodland Daffodils, originally uploaded by Jim-AR.

This February 13 photo is posted on Photographer Jim-AR‘s photostream with the following detail: Daffodils growing in a woodland area.. Did they escape from their beds and are encroaching in the woodland area… or was there an old homesite here at one time?

Jim-Ar tells us: These daffodils occur in a woodland area behind my house in Monticello, AR which is in the southeastern part of the State.  [The first flower] opened on February 7 which happened to be my birthday… All the beds are in full bloom now and are just beautiful… I have brought several large bouquets indoors for the dining room table and bedroom..

Photographer Ramblings by Reba tells us about this February 15, 2009 composition: I took the photo in Athens, Georgia, at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. There’s nothing “unusual” about the daffodils themselves… they’re just your garden variety daffodils. :)

This photo originally posted to the Ramblings By Reba blog, where Reba gives more detail about her earthy photographic technique to get this shot!

First Daffodils in Mariposa County, California

Spring Flowers, originally uploaded by TheSheriffRocks.

Photographer Rachel Rosemire tells us: This is one of my favorites also. I have 4 daffodil photos in that same set and the details are as follows:

The photos were taken in my front yard, which is located near Lake Don Pedro in Mariposa County, California. The photos in that set were taken on February 12th, 2009, about 10 days after they first sprouted.

The only other photo I have is this one, which is literally the first one that sprouted on February 2, 2009. The bulbs were planted in late October. They were given to my mom over 20 years ago by an elderly Dutch man and have been replanted many times over the years and always successfully bloomed in January/February.

City Daffodils, originally uploaded by selyfriday.

Photographer selyfriday tells us about this February 12, 2009 photo: The picture was taken last Thursday in Amsterdam on the SpiegelGracht. Check the map flickr map option for an exact location.

The Daffy’s are in window planters on the front of this house by their windows. Just below out of shot is a bench you can sit in and watch the boats go by. The house is a very very old dutch canal house…

A Hint of Spring in St. Albans, England

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

DSC_7567 A hint of spring amongst the daffodils, originally uploaded by Ewart Tearle.

Photographer Ewart Tearle writes to us: The pictures were taken in the same garden next to the footpath in Wheat Close, St Albans, England (not far from London) at 15:11 on 14 Feb 2009. It wasn’t my garden; I was going for a walk and saw the light on the daffs, and thought they made a nice picture. If I focused on a single bud, with the light behind, it would give that sense of something pending. The snow behind me was melting after a week of it, so the perky little daffs were a real treat.

You can see the EXIF data alongside the picture in my photostream. I use an 18-135mmDX lens on my Nikon D40X. I set the camera to aperture priority for those shots. The aperture was f/5.3 and the ASA was 200. The EXIF data say the speed of the shot was 1/1000.

20090213 Jumpstarted indoor, originally uploaded by SteenT.

This February 13, 2009 flickr photo has the following information in the caption: Spring just around the corner ! Today we have had the most fantastic “spring like” weather even that the night temperature has been minus 8 centigrades.

The photographer SteenT provides additional information: The picture was taken at my girlfriends apartment in Hornslet, Denmark. She has bought the daffodils in the local flower shop a week earlier. She use to buy daffodil every spring, and when they are finished blossoming indoor they will be planted out in my garden later in the spring. Then they will blossom at normal “daffodil time” around April.

Little Daffodils in Zakynthos, Greece

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Little Daffodils, originally uploaded by RobW_.

The photographer RobW titles this February 10, 2009 photo “Little Flowers”. He tells us: The flowers, I am informed, are Paperwhite Narcissus (Narcissus papyraceus), and are growing wild in an olive grove in the seaside village of Tsilivi, on the Ionian island of Zakynthos, Greece. I have another, better shot in my opinion, taken by a roadside in a neighbouring village the following day.

soon I will be something beautiful, originally uploaded by A Girl And Her Camera.

We so love the title of this February 8, 2009 photo “soon I will be something beautiful”. The photographer A Girl And Her Camera tells us: It was taken in Seattle, WA, down by the Seattle waterfront. That is by the piers, right next to the Seattle Aquarium. There is a park there, called the waterfront park. and I knew these were going to be daffodils, because I took a picture of them last year when they were in bloom.
