First Daffodils in Bolingbrook, Illinois

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Springtime Fighting, originally uploaded by chorwedel.

We love the choreography in this image of “Two daffodils fighting for spring to arrive” (photographer’s description). These Midwesterners live in Chad’s yard in Bolingbrook, Illinois.

The image was taken on March 22, 2008, and we figured things have changed a lot in the past month. So we wrote to the photographer to see whazzup with the snow and the blooms. Chad reports: “The snow is all melted and the daffodils are in full bloom. Looks like one poor guy didn’t make it with a bloom, but all of the rest are doing just fine.”

Smiling Throughout -, originally uploaded by Lochaven.

A wild snowy daffodils action shot! We would’ve bet we’d seen the last daffodil and snow photo for 2008, but here we have a cold one in Northern New Mexico for April 17. We love Lochaven’s title for this image: “Smiling Throughout”.

We really, really like this photo. It’s a bit unsettling (in a great, artistic way). Fenced-in drama in Woodburn, Oregon on April 16, 2008.

We could have danced all night in Washington, D.C.

We are mesmerized by this photograph titled “Spring Dance”. The garden magic occurred in tuanh’s backyard in a suburb of Washington, D.C. on March 25, 2008.

Daffodil Festival 2008 Resource Website

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

The daffodil season has arrived and gone in much of the U.S., but we’re still looking forward to our daffodils here in New England (we’ve seen reports of daffodils on Cape Cod and in western Massachusetts, and we have seen an early daffodil or two along the streets of Cambridge).

Want to know the dates for your favorite daffodil festival and field in 2008? We invite you to visit our resource website (daffodilfestivals.com) which lists every North American daffodil festival, garden, and field that we know about.

Next year, we hope to expand the listing to daffodil festivals around the world.

We’re not sure what they are feeding these daffodils at JC Raulston Arboretum, NC State University – but we know we’re not going to be messing with ‘em. This image was taken on March 25, 2008.

Great Blue Heron & Daffodils in British Columbia

Grey and Yellow, originally uploaded by leftCoast Imaging.

This beautiful bird seems intently interested in these daffodils. Maybe there’s a bug on one of the blossoms. This image was taken by leftCoast Imaging in Delta, British Columbia, on April 6, 2008. More great blue heron photos here on flickr.
