Spring springs up in Virginia Beach, Virginia

It Appears There Will Be A Spring, originally uploaded by cbonney

Photographer cbonney tells us about this February 16 photo: It was taken in the woodland garden on my house in Virginia Beach, Va. We’re in something of an unusual place for gardening. We’re just about three miles in from the Atlantic Ocean and about as far south of the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. This gives us a gardening climate more akin to the middle south than the region just to the west of us.

We love this photo and the story to go with it – read the story at cbonney’s blog here.

Monticello Daffodils in Charlottesville, Virginia

Monticello Daffodils_MAR4931_32, originally uploaded by macjammer.

Photographer macjammer tells us about this March 21, 2010 image: The picture was taken at Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson in Charlottesville VA. It is a composite of two images – one that has the daffodils in sharp focus and a second that has the house in sharp focus. The gardeners at Monticello maintain year round plantings of seasonal flowers. The next to bloom will be tulips, which are spectacular.

For more Monticello photos generally, including an aerial from a hot air balloon, see macjammer’s Monticello set.

Daffodils are definitely out in Virginia – macjammer has also posted two beautiful daffodil photos from the University of Virginia Pavilion here and here.

It’s Coming!, originally uploaded by basimmons.

Photographer basimmons posts this January 16, 2010 photo from Virginia! She says: I took the photo right outside the Viriginia home I was born and raised in. These daffodils are very close to the house so maybe somewhat protected. Maybe that’s why they come up early. They always come up before mine do only 5 miles away. Also, they are very old bulbs. The house is 53 years old. I doubt if the bulbs are quite that old but maybe close:)
