Photographer cb in bc tells us about this February 15, 2011 image: This shot was taken last weekend on Mystic Beach, which is on the western side of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Mystic Beach is located near the town of Sooke and is one of the many traverses along the ‘Fuan de Fuca Trail’.

Daffodils at the beach are highly unusual, so we suspect these dwarf variety were planted by someone. Seeing daffodils in the rugged wilds beside the Pacific Ocean was indeed a sight to behold. They were cheery and quite photogenic with a natural waterfall alongside the bunches.

I remember thinking – Wow – the incredible Vancouver 2010 Olympics (February 12th to 28th) just finished 2 days ago – and here are these beautiful daffodils, so gently living here on this side, you would never know hundreds of thousands of athletes and people from around the world were here, celebrating and partying 24 hours a day, and everything seems so quiet and gentle now! I love living in Vancouver, and what a beautiful grouping of daffodils.

Here are more comments about these Vancouver daffodils, taken from Free 2 Be’s posted flickr image: 11/365 (January 11, 2010) – I love many things about Vancouver. One of these is the fact that [we] tend to refer to January as “Spring”. Yes, technically the rest of the country is usually still in the grips of Old Man Winter, and yes, we can certainly get hit with cold weather after January 1st…. but look, my daffodils are coming up already! And no, this is not unusual…I generally expect to see them sticking their heads out already.

So even though the calendar says winter, I say spring!
