Photographer penseroso tells us about this radiant image taken on January 20, 2011: It was taken just this morning on my way to work. The daffs are in a little pot in front of a toy store on the rim of downtown Seattle. It’s not just any toy store either, but a place where they actually make toys – trucks, dolls, planes, things that don’t need a playstation to work.

Maybe the place makes me feel good whenever I pass it, and it helps me to see the beauty in little things. It was a bonus to see these new daffodils right outside their front door. I crouched down behind them and waited for someone colorful to wander past – just for the subtle human element to place the flowers in their urban context.

You have to seize the opportunity to photograph daffodils, and photograph them a lot, because they don’t last long. Another week at most and these guys will be gone.

We are having an early spring, and daffodils were opening as early as the beginning of February. The daffodils in the picture are adorning Pike Place Market, the Seattle landmark, outdoor produce, flower, meat/fish and imported goods.”
