Not really much of a story behind it except it is a bit early even for GA but the weather has been extremely mild. I belong to the 365 project and was on my way to work when I noticed them blooming in my front yard.”

Photographer Dirt Road Cowboy tells us about this February 28, 2010 image: Daffodils at one time must have been the most common “exotic” flower in the South, as they are commonly found around old homesites. I look forward each year to seeking them out. The people are long gone from this place, but the daffodils persist, thrive even. I’m unsure as to the variety, but this was made just outside Pitts, Wilcox County, Georgia. Late February is when they first start appearing…

Photographer jvas90 tells us about this image: It was taken last Saturday Feb. 13, 2010 on the Berry College campus in Rome, GA. We usually see the daffodils bloom here in Georgia around the first couple of weeks in February.. sometimes as early as the last week in January. This winter however has been colder than normal for us.. I am hoping to go for a walk today and see if any of them have bloomed.

Photographer maryfreeman tells us about this March 1, 2009 image: I live in Woodstock, GA in a very old house (160 yrs) These daffodils come up here beginning sometime in February, I am amazed they last through some cold days and nights. They are abundant around my house, I could not tell you how long they have been around, they just seem to multiply with each new year.

More daffodils in the southern U.S. with the autumn leaves still looking pretty “fresh” on the ground. This image was taken on January 5, 2009.

Photographer Greg Wehr in Lawrenceville, Georgia tells us: The bed of daffodils is in my front yard and gets the majority portion of the daily sun. The daffodils are your normal yellow trumpet.

Another January 10 daffodil photo from Columbus, Georgia! We wrote to photographer Jonathan Payne to get the story about these perfect blossoms: Columbus is located in Georgia, about 2 hours south of Atlanta on the western border. It is still early for daffodils, but we’ve had a quite a bit of warm weather recently which prompted this early showing. To be honest, this is the first one I’ve seen this year and it just happened to be growing in my yard, poking through an Azalea.

It was an overcast day on Jan 10th and the yellow was standing out sharply to the dull brown background. I grabbed a polarizer, just to see if I could get it to stand out a little more, and grabbed 4 or 5 shots. This was my favorite.

More early, early daffodils, this time in bloom and in Georgia. We wrote to the photographer ericdege for details: The photo was taken at about 10:30 in the morning on 10 January 2009 in Columbus, Georgia and are in my neighbor’s front yard.. it was interesting (well, to me anyway) that I’d been talking daffodils with a friend just a few days previously and in looking through my photos from last year, had noted that I took my first daffodil photo on 7 February ..so, I thought I had a few more weeks to wait and seeing them that morning was quite a surprise.
