Photographer kathydillard tells us about this March 2, 2009 photo: It was taken in St. James Park in central London. I had been in the park two weeks before and the flowers were not yet in bloom, so it was a thrill to see them blooming on my last day in England.

Photographer keithhull tells us about this March 3, 2009 photo: Taken in my garden in the City of Hull England. Not sure what type of flower. I planted hundreds in the garden many different species but cannot remember which this one is.
I know this shot lacks colour and you will soon see many shots of glorious yellow daffodils. I wanted to catch the period just before they fully flower. Slowly emerging from the winter ground they are almost ready to explode into colour…….but we must be patient … any day now. Perhaps the greatest pleasure of being a gardener is anticipation.

Nature photographer Mukumbura tells us about this March 1, 2009 image: Photo taken in the cathedral city of Wells in Somerset, England – England’s smallest cathedral city! As for the daffs, they just appear in the same spot every year near our garage wall, and have been there all of the 15 years we’ve lived here.
Mukumbura tells us the first daffodil has opened – nice!

We love the painterly look of photographer looseknee’s work. We wrote to looseknee to ask about this photo, and here is what we are told: The daffodils were in a garden centre in Ivybridge, Devon UK. The closest major city would be Plymouth. The photo was taken on February 20th 2009.

Here’s the winter version of daffodils in Lapwing Wood – same location, if not the same daffs.

The photographer Webrarian tells us about this February 21, 2009 photo: It was taken in the Cornish town of Penzance which is about as far west as you can go in England without falling into the Atlantic Ocean.
It has a reputation for growing early daffodils because it is much milder there than other parts of the UK. The Cornish fields are full of two crops at the moment – daffodils and cauliflowers.
These were outside a house in Penzance itself.

Photographer *Vindaloo* tells us: The photo was taken in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The daffodils were growing in a little pot at Meanwood Valley Urban Farm, which is a city centre farm close to where I live. My husband and I had taken our daughter there for the afternoon, the daffs were growing just outside the cafe/shop area. The farm’s website is www.mvuf.org.uk.
Note from iSpring: We live in a city but were unaware of the urban farm movement exemplified by the Meanwood Valley Urban Farm. Good stuff! Here is a November 23, 2008 CBS report on urban farms, including (part of) the video news report and the complete transcript.

Photographer elaine174 tells us about this February 14, 2009 photo: Most of the snow had gone, but there was still a lot in this wood – although melting. I expect it has all gone now.
We say: Perhaps this is the last snow of the season. Here come the daffodils.

Photographer Ewart Tearle writes to us: The pictures were taken in the same garden next to the footpath in Wheat Close, St Albans, England (not far from London) at 15:11 on 14 Feb 2009. It wasn’t my garden; I was going for a walk and saw the light on the daffs, and thought they made a nice picture. If I focused on a single bud, with the light behind, it would give that sense of something pending. The snow behind me was melting after a week of it, so the perky little daffs were a real treat.
You can see the EXIF data alongside the picture in my photostream. I use an 18-135mmDX lens on my Nikon D40X. I set the camera to aperture priority for those shots. The aperture was f/5.3 and the ASA was 200. The EXIF data say the speed of the shot was 1/1000.

This January 18, 2009 daffodil photo entitled “Daffodelightful” was taken in *ian*’s father’s garden near Southampton, Hampshire, UK (a few feet away from the daffodil in the next post).
The photographer *Ian* tells us about these daffodils: Both of the daffodils are running a few weeks later than last year, when one astounded us by flowering in the first week of January! You can see it here: www.flickr.com/photos/big-e-mr-g/2178497931/
Says *ian*’s flickr post: The daffodil’s are peeking through, so spring must be on the way…

Photographer Ennor tells us about the Eden Project in the next post. On Ennor’s flickr post for this photo, here is his comment: Sunday and I was determined to get out today. I needed some peanuts for the birds so went down to Cornish Market World at Par, then over to the Eden Project for the rest of the afternoon.

Photographer Ennor tells us about this picture of springtime: The photo was taken at the Eden Project in Cornwall. The Eden Project is in an old china clay pit, and these daffodils are alongside the path that leads visitors down to the biomes. The area was under snow on the 2nd and 3rd of February, the two days following the day I took this photo. I don’t know the variety, there are quite a range grown at Eden and several were in bloom around the site. Daffodils are grown commercially in Cornwall and are one of our major industries. In spring there are fields of golden flowering daffodils covering the landscape.

The photographer says: I took “Daffodil and snow, Cornwall” on Monday 2nd Feb, near the village of St Buryan in Cornwall, whilst out walking with my father. Daffodils are cultivated in the fields there. It is quite rare for there to be significant snow fall in that part of Cornwall, so the scenery was particularly unusual.

This photo, named “Spring Hope”, was taken by photographer Jemstone33, who tells us: I don’t know what kind of daffs they are, but are probably native as we have them all over here in the UK. It was taken on Feb 6th 2009 during our big snowfall last week. Location is Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England.

This otherworldly photo titled “Daffodil in Snow” was taken on February 3, 2008. Photographer oakjane tells us: It was taken in my neighbour’s garden in Ledbury, Herefordshire, England. The image reminds me Spring is on its way. It feels very hopeful and positive – new life pushing through the snow. I got pretty wet lying in the snow to take it but it was worth it!
I walked round the same garden today 3 days later – the snow and the magic has gone. If I hadn’t been taking photos I’d have walked straight on by. Taking close ups of flowers is a gateway to another world – right on my doorstep – beauty at my feet, if only I stop and see.

The photographer potbic tells us about this February 6, 2009 photo: Taken at Brackenhurst campus garden next to a pond. That’s just outside a town of Southwell in Nottinghamshire. The college is an agricultural college part of Nottingham Trent University. The daffodils could be native wild daffodils ( Narcissus pseudonarcissus ) there are some growing there but they could also be the garden cultivated variety which as you know there are hundreds. We have had a cold winter this year and a real snow for the first time in years and it is still snowing so I was surprised to see them trying to emerge. I will be keeping an eye on them to see if they fully flower or stay as they are.

Photographer the tomahawk kid tells us: It was taken the evening before the snowstorm that seems to have hit most of the UK though I am about 80 miles north of London…I live right on the border of Norfolk & Suffolk and in fact those daffodil shoots are literally a handful of yards from the actual border – the nearest town is about a mile away and is called Diss…the daffodils come up every year in this place but are not in a garden but on wild ground.
This photo was taken on February 2, 2009.
