Photographer Jen and Cam tell us about this March 8, 2009 photo: I found this little clump of daffodils at the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, Greater London. It’s the perfect time of year to visit Kew as spring flowers are in abundance including daffodils, snow drops & crocuses, some of which you can see in the background of this photo.
We are mesmerized by the colors in this photo. The blue in the background has a “water feel” to it, and we can’t resist images of daffodils and water.

Photographer Kernow Pics tells us about this March 13, 2009 image: It was taken at www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-trelissickgarden
Which is near the city of Truro, Cornwall, UK.
Can’t tell you much about them only that they are in a small wooded area behind the residence to the Bishop of Truro.
We grow daffodils commercially in Cornwall for the world market. There are literally hundreds of acres of daffs grown. Some are allowed to fully bloom to harvest the bulbs, others are hand picked for markets all over.

Photographer Julie Littlefield tells us about this March 15, 2009 image: It was taken at Kew Gardens in London, UK (Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew – to give it the full name). It’s in the Woodland Garden, the path leads down from the Temple of Aeolius which sits on top of a small hill. I took it on Sunday so it’s very recent. I’m afraid I didn’t take much notice of which type of daffodills they are, but if it’s any help they seemed to be the usual large ones without any ruffles.
Here’s another Kew Gardens photo from the same day, also posted by Julie Littlefield.
Here is the wikipedia page about Kew Gardens.

Photographer GranDadWoof tells us about this March 14, 2009 image: It was shot with a Nikon D300 using a beautiful old Nikon 200mm f/4 Ai-S manual-focus lens in a small wood adjacent to Crofton Cemetary – which is next to the original churchyard of Crofton Old Church, Stubbington, Hampshire, UK.
The daffodils grow wild there and though I am unable to tell what variety they are. they do appear to be a domestic variety that must have escaped from captivity

Here is what photographer Karen Birch tells us about this image: The photo was taken in Trafalgar Square in London, UK on Thursday 5th March 2009.
These daffodils were made by Graphic Design Students from the University of the Arts, London, including myself. We are called the Magpie Collective.
The most important thing about this project is was that it was done to raise awareness of the Marie Curie Cancer Cure organisation www.mariecurie.org.uk who do sterling work in caring for sufferers of cancer at the later stages of this terrible disease.

Photographer kathydillard tells us about this March 2, 2009 photo: It was taken in St. James Park in central London. I had been in the park two weeks before and the flowers were not yet in bloom, so it was a thrill to see them blooming on my last day in England.

Photographer keithhull tells us about this March 3, 2009 photo: Taken in my garden in the City of Hull England. Not sure what type of flower. I planted hundreds in the garden many different species but cannot remember which this one is.
I know this shot lacks colour and you will soon see many shots of glorious yellow daffodils. I wanted to catch the period just before they fully flower. Slowly emerging from the winter ground they are almost ready to explode into colour…….but we must be patient … any day now. Perhaps the greatest pleasure of being a gardener is anticipation.

Nature photographer Mukumbura tells us about this March 1, 2009 image: Photo taken in the cathedral city of Wells in Somerset, England – England’s smallest cathedral city! As for the daffs, they just appear in the same spot every year near our garage wall, and have been there all of the 15 years we’ve lived here.
Mukumbura tells us the first daffodil has opened – nice!

The photographer Webrarian tells us about this February 21, 2009 photo: It was taken in the Cornish town of Penzance which is about as far west as you can go in England without falling into the Atlantic Ocean.
It has a reputation for growing early daffodils because it is much milder there than other parts of the UK. The Cornish fields are full of two crops at the moment – daffodils and cauliflowers.
These were outside a house in Penzance itself.

Photographer *Vindaloo* tells us: The photo was taken in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The daffodils were growing in a little pot at Meanwood Valley Urban Farm, which is a city centre farm close to where I live. My husband and I had taken our daughter there for the afternoon, the daffs were growing just outside the cafe/shop area. The farm’s website is www.mvuf.org.uk.
Note from iSpring: We live in a city but were unaware of the urban farm movement exemplified by the Meanwood Valley Urban Farm. Good stuff! Here is a November 23, 2008 CBS report on urban farms, including (part of) the video news report and the complete transcript.

Photographer elaine174 tells us about this February 14, 2009 photo: Most of the snow had gone, but there was still a lot in this wood – although melting. I expect it has all gone now.
We say: Perhaps this is the last snow of the season. Here come the daffodils.

Photographer Ewart Tearle writes to us: The pictures were taken in the same garden next to the footpath in Wheat Close, St Albans, England (not far from London) at 15:11 on 14 Feb 2009. It wasn’t my garden; I was going for a walk and saw the light on the daffs, and thought they made a nice picture. If I focused on a single bud, with the light behind, it would give that sense of something pending. The snow behind me was melting after a week of it, so the perky little daffs were a real treat.
You can see the EXIF data alongside the picture in my photostream. I use an 18-135mmDX lens on my Nikon D40X. I set the camera to aperture priority for those shots. The aperture was f/5.3 and the ASA was 200. The EXIF data say the speed of the shot was 1/1000.

This January 18, 2009 daffodil photo entitled “Daffodelightful” was taken in *ian*’s father’s garden near Southampton, Hampshire, UK (a few feet away from the daffodil in the next post).
The photographer *Ian* tells us about these daffodils: Both of the daffodils are running a few weeks later than last year, when one astounded us by flowering in the first week of January! You can see it here: www.flickr.com/photos/big-e-mr-g/2178497931/
Says *ian*’s flickr post: The daffodil’s are peeking through, so spring must be on the way…
