Vancouver 2010-March021, originally uploaded by Diana Walker.

Photographer Diana Walker tells us about this March 2, 2010 image: Photo taken on my favorite walk, Kitsilano Beach, near Burrard Bridge, Vancouver. I remember thinking – Wow – the incredible Vancouver 2010 Olympics (February 12th to 28th) just finished 2 days ago – and here are these beautiful daffodils, so gently living here on this side, you would never know hundreds of thousands of athletes and people from around the world were here, celebrating and partying 24 hours a day, and everything seems so quiet and gentle now! I love living in Vancouver, and what a beautiful grouping of daffodils.

Day 11 – It’s SPRING!, originally uploaded by Free 2 Be.

Photographer Free 2 Be tells us: The photo was taken in the garden on the deck of my condo, in North Vancouver, BC, Canada. They are King Alfred daffodils (I think).

Here are more comments about these Vancouver daffodils, taken from Free 2 Be’s posted flickr image: 11/365 (January 11, 2010) – I love many things about Vancouver. One of these is the fact that [we] tend to refer to January as “Spring”. Yes, technically the rest of the country is usually still in the grips of Old Man Winter, and yes, we can certainly get hit with cold weather after January 1st…. but look, my daffodils are coming up already! And no, this is not unusual…I generally expect to see them sticking their heads out already.

So even though the calendar says winter, I say spring!

Daffodil Bud in Richmond, British Columbia

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Backlit Daffodil Bud, originally uploaded by LIBRRIAN.

Photographer LIBRRIAN tells us about this March 1, 2009 image: I plan to take more shots as that particular blossom opens up. I have been following this plant since it came out of the ground. We have several different varieties in the garden and I am waiting to be surprised when it blooms.

I will figure out how to geotag this image, so you can see the exact co-ordinates. This plant is growing in the front garden of my co-op in Richmond, BC, on the west coast of Canada. The climate here is very mild in winter, however, this year we have had quite a lot of snow. The TV weatherman has forecast snow for Saturday, and if we get it, I will shoot that, too.

You can see the developing bloom in there!

We followed up with a question about the backlighting, and here is what LIBBRIAN tells us: Yes, the sun is behind the bud, because I wanted to see how full the sepals were. Today, they are nearly full and the bud is beginning to swell, just a little.
