In spite of his efforts, I will likely have a sunflower grove here after the daffodils are spent, all the better to bring in the birds! I just love how his tidy little cape matches the Sedona soil so perfectly.

In Ireland, since 1988 The Irish Cancer Society has a major fundraiser where people purchase daffodil packs, and the money goes for care of cancer patients. You see daffodils everywhere, even out in wild cow fields–anyway, I was walking in Merrion Square Park in the heart of Dublin, when I came upon the seagull just walking around…and I waited until he posed by the blooming daffs.

The robin patrols our garden which is 400′ above sea level on the warm red sandy soils of West Somerset, England, in the Vale of Taunton between the Quantock hills and Exmoor, right next to the West Somerset Railway. That day, where the sun had not touched it the frost still held; but the shelter of the south facing bank made it pleasant enough to sit in the sun on an upturned bucket, camera in one hand and trowel in the other, uncovering the early daffodil shoots – and tempting titbits for the robin.
