Daffodil Daydream in Manhattan, NYC

Daffodil Daydream, originally uploaded by I like green.

Location: Manhattan, New York City
Date: April 13, 2013

The photo was taken 4/13/13 at Bryant Park, midtown Manhattan in NY. I often walk through Bryant Park, a block- long oasis on bustling 42nd St. between 5th and 6th Ave, on my way to meet up with a friend in Grand Central terminal.

On this particular day the park was humming with spring-like activities; people sitting at tables enjoying a snack and the weather, lots of photographers and flowers blooming everywhere.

As I passed through, I spotted this quiet little scene of birds on the edge of the fountain in a grassy spot filled with daffodils. and shot it as if it existed unto itself, a perfectly contained moment of springtime bliss.

Daffodil Grove in Sedona, Arizona

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

Daffodil Grove, originally uploaded by sedonakin.

Photographer Julie Lake tells us about this southwestern image taken on January 30, 2011: This handsomely garbed little Junco is pecking around for seeds that have been recklessly tossed down from the bird feeders. In spite of his efforts, I will likely have a sunflower grove here after the daffodils are spent, all the better to bring in the birds! I just love how his tidy little cape matches the Sedona soil so perfectly.

Daffodils and Bird in Scotland

Blue Tit, originally uploaded by Drosophi|a.

Photographer Drosophila tells us about this April 19, 2009 image: This was taken in Scotland, near Fyvie Castle in Aberdeenshire. The Daffodils were well kept by the gardeners and provided the perfect backdrop for the little Blue Tit I managed to photograph.

Herons and Daffodils in the Lake District

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

amid the daffodils, originally uploaded by steven brannon.

Photographer Steven Brannon tells us about this April 3, 2009 photo: It was taken in the gardens of Muncaster Castle in the Lake District National Park, Cumbria, UK just 15 miles from where I live. The daffodils in these parts can be truly fantastic, in fact a local poet – William Wordsworth – who was born about ten miles from where I live – wrote quite a famous poem about them.

Duck and Daffodils in Leiden, The Netherlands

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Duck, originally uploaded by ashzhish.

Photographer ashzhish tells us about this bright-eyed April 2, 2009 image: I took the photo along the Witte Singel in Leiden, the Netherlands. I was charmed both by the luxurious carpet of daffodils lining the singel amd by the ducks wandering through them. After a long cold winter, the flowers – among the first harbingers of spring – were a warm and welcome sight.

Daffodils and Seagull in Dublin

SEAGULL AND SPRING DAFFODILS, originally uploaded by ashkani.

Photographer ashkani tells us about this March 6, 2009 image: Well, daffodils are one of the first flower bulbs to come up in the early Spring, as you know. In Ireland, since 1988 The Irish Cancer Society has a major fundraiser where people purchase daffodil packs, and the money goes for care of cancer patients. You see daffodils everywhere, even out in wild cow fields–anyway, I was walking in Merrion Square Park in the heart of Dublin, when I came upon the seagull just walking around…and I waited until he posed by the blooming daffs.

First Daffodils and Blackbird in Somerset, England

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

Spring has Sprung! Our blackbirds are nesting, originally uploaded by Mukumbura.

Nature photographer Mukumbura tells us about this March 1, 2009 image: Photo taken in the cathedral city of Wells in Somerset, England – England’s smallest cathedral city! As for the daffs, they just appear in the same spot every year near our garage wall, and have been there all of the 15 years we’ve lived here.

Mukumbura tells us the first daffodil has opened – nice!

Robin and His Friend Daffodil

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Robin 1, originally uploaded by mumpenny.

This December 27, 2008 photo has spring written all over it in West Somerset, England. The photographer, mumpenny, has sent us this information:

The robin patrols our garden which is 400′ above sea level on the warm red sandy soils of West Somerset, England, in the Vale of Taunton between the Quantock hills and Exmoor, right next to the West Somerset Railway. That day, where the sun had not touched it the frost still held; but the shelter of the south facing bank made it pleasant enough to sit in the sun on an upturned bucket, camera in one hand and trowel in the other, uncovering the early daffodil shoots – and tempting titbits for the robin.
