I was feeling a little blue last weekend and decided to go on a walk in NYC, where I live. I found myself in Madison Square Park, just as the sun hit the perfect angle to shower the whole area with light. The daffodils were everywhere and it was hard to pick a place to stop and try to take pictures! I loved that when I knelt down to take the picture, it felt like I was miles away in a field somewhere.

Highland Park Daffodils in Rochester, New York

, originally uploaded by Jean Arf.

Photographer Jean Arf tells us about this April 14, 2010 photo: It was taken in Highland Park in Rochester, New York, which is a Frederick Law Olmsted-designed park (he also designed Central Park, the Emerald Necklace in Boston, many others). It is a botanical park/arboretum with collections of many types of trees and plants, some rare, but it is most famous for its lilac collection.

Can’t tell you anything about the daffodils really. I find that spot particularly beautiful and probably photograph it hundreds of times during the spring.

Times Square Daffodil in New York City

Time Square Flower, originally uploaded by TruppPhoto.

Photographer TruppPhoto tells us about this March 21, 2010 image: I snapped this picture of a bed of daffodils in the center of Time Square in New York City. The flowers almost seem out of place when surrounded by all the lights and activity of this area, but these daffodils are definitely holding their own.

This image was taken with my brand new 35mm lens at f/4.8. These flowers were the perfect test subjects.

Daffodils in Planting Fields Arboretum, Oyster Bay, New York

Main Greenhouse, originally uploaded by blackrose916….

Photographer blackrose916… tells us about this February 24, 2010 image: It was taken inside at Planting Fields Arboretum Main Greenhouse, which is decorated for early spring. We don’t have any daffodils popping up outside yet here on Long Island.

The arboretum is in Oyster Bay, NY. It is the former Coe Estate, which is now a New York State Historic Park. There are other shots on my photostream of what the inside of the greenhouse looks like.

Daffodils in New York City

In the Springtime…, originally uploaded by boileraae.

We don’t see many photos of daffodils in NYC, and this is a great capture from March 31, 2009. Photographer boileraae tells us: The photo was taken 3 weeks ago in Central Park, New York City. I believe the body of water is officially known as “The Lake”. I geotag my photos, so check the link on the photo page to see a map of where the photo was taken.
